Bela Fleck - A New York City native, Béla Fleck picked up the banjo at age 15 after being awed by the bluegrass playing of Flatt & Scruggs. He began experimenting with playing bebop on the banjo in high school. In 1982, he joined the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival, where he made a name for himself in the country-bluegrass world, at the same time beginning a series of solo albums including the groundbreaking 1988 album Drive, 1994's Tales from the Acoustic Planet and 1999's The Bluegrass Sessions-Tales from the Acoustic Planet Volume 2. The Flecktones' (forming in 1989) relentless touring has garnered major attention, highlighting the interplay of true virtuoso musicians: Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, percussionist Future Man and saxophonist Jeff Coffin. Famed for routinely playing over 200 concert dates a year, the Flecktones reached more than 500,000 audience members in 2001 alone. Often considered the premiere banjo player in the world, Fleck has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of the banjo in a remarkable performing and recording career that has taken him all over the musical map, both with the Flecktones and on a range of solo projects and collaborations. www.belafleck.com

Bruce Dunlap has played the guitar for 45 of his 48 years. He has captured audiences worldwide with his facile command of the technique and poetry of the acoustic guitar. Having recorded several critically acclaimed CDs (Chesky Records) and a recent CD with the group Medicine Show, Bruce's "shimmering portraits" as Jazz Times called them, often sound like they are being played by more than one guitarist. Bruce draws on jazz, classical and ethnic traditions to create what Jazziz Magazine called "a stirring, intellectually satisfying collection of pieces that have the grace and emotional import of fine poetry". www.brucedunlap.com
