The vision behind this web site is to provide information not just on Ty and the tabla, but the eclectic community of people with whom he works. You will find not only musicians, but yoga instructors, dancers, actors, film makers, painters, philosophers, and more on the Community Links page. Ty has always been involved in bringing together the many faces of the arts and would like this site to serve as an expanding resource for those interested in participating with, as well as supporting the interweaving of the arts.
Ty's record company, Tala Records features projects with many of the artists featured on this site. Many of these pages will be augmented and updated on a regular basis, such as the Concerts page. So, check in often and feel free to contact Ty through the contact form here.

Ty works with a broad range of artists including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Art Lande, Krishna Das, Kala Ramnath, Curandero (Miguel Espinoza), Ustad Sultan Khan, Bela Fleck, Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Steve Gorn, Mamadou Diabate, Rick Alan (Def Leppard), Howard Levy, Kitaro, Bill Dougals, Jon Anderson (Yes) and many more. On the side, he is the tour assistant for his teacher Zakir Hussain, touring, producing and managing concerts worldwide. Ty also teaches “Sound & Spirit” workshops as well as tabla intensives throughout the world.
The word tabla comes from the Arabic word for 'drum'. The North Indian tabla is a pair of drums, one tuned to a clear, bell like treble tone and the other to a flexible low bass tone. The dayan ('right' in Hindi) is the smaller, higher pitched of the two drums. It is tuned to the SA/tonic of the main melodic instrument (on occasion it is tuned to PA/5th). It is most often carved out of a single piece of wood.
